La Viña Cuban Café

La Viña is the name of our family’s business in Cuba. The original business was opened in the late 1800’s in the City of Matanzas in the very center of town across from the main square. The profile of the business was as a traditional Spanish Supply store with a small bar. It was common in those days for the customers to have a drink while they were being waited on. Our family bought the business in 1959 with earnings from our great-grandparents farm. They were quite the entrepreneurs. This “Bodega” offered traditional food supplies for the Cuban Kitchen, Specialty Products from Spain and continued the small bar with select and fine liquors. They introduced a small tapas bar which was a complement to the liquor offerings and kept the customers coming back. Their great innovation was to introduce a home delivery service (Uber Eats anyone) and extend “Open Credit” to well established customers. Our chef today is the grandnephew of the original delivery man for the Matanzas Bodega. Our Matre’d is the granddaughter of one of the original partners in the family venture of 1959. They both come from the same City and cultural traditions of their ancestors and their connection to La Viña is undeniable. "We chose this name to honor our ancestors and their dedication to service and hard work." La Viña is literally translated as The Vineyard; this is part of our Spanish heritage, through Cuba.
